What’s the Retirement Plan?

After nearly 40 years of working we are both retired as of the end of April. We are putting everything into storage and renting out our condominium in Vancouver. As of mid-May we are hitting the road to see the world. We anticipate travelling two years or more. Our travels will start in Spain. We are planning to hike the Camino de Santiago. We expect that will take about six weeks. From there we have no fixed plans. We have plans pencilled in – really just ideas and dreams. Nothing is carved in stone. The first few months will likely be in Europe. Where we stay and how long will depend on weather and how much we’re enjoying the experience, people, wine and food. If anyone has any recommendations feel free to share. We are each travelling with two bags – one carry-on sized backpack and one large conventional bag each. It will be fun to see how we adapt to living out of suitcases. Our accommodations aren’t fixed – sometimes it may be hotels, other times AirBnB. Our plan is try a variety of things. Sometimes we will just be ordinary tourists. Other times we will hang out and live like locals. We want to keep active so some of the time will be spent hiking and biking, and maybe even the odd marathon. We want to continue to contribute, so we will be looking for volunteer opportunities, maybe with animals or children (suggestions of worthy ventures are welcome). Once in a while we may even just lay back on a beach somewhere.
